Funeral Services

Funeral Services

Every funeral should be as unique as each life lived. Choosing to hold a funeral service may help surviving family and friends grieve their loss as well as acknowledge the death and the life lived of a loved one. Today, funerals can take on many shapes or forms, from a traditional funeral, a memorial service, a graveside service, to a celebration of life. You will find below different options available when planning your loved one's funeral.

If you are in need of making funeral arrangements for a loved one, or if you are interested in pre-arranging your funeral, we invite you to

Traditional Funeral Service

A Traditional Funeral Service commonly includes:

Visitation

Often called viewing or a wake, family and friends come to pay their respects to the deceased and spend time with the grieving family. A visitation can occur at any time before the funeral service.

Funeral Service

This event commonly takes place in the funeral home chapel or at a place of worship. It can include the reading religious or literary passages, prayers, a eulogy, the singing of hymns and music.

Committal Service

If the family plans to bury their loved one, this stage involves a funeral procession to the cemetery. The graveside committal service can consist of the reading religious or literary passages, prayers, the singing of hymns and music.

Funeral Reception

This post-service gathering is considered a time to share memories, laughter, and support where food and beverage are served. Ask about our Reception Centre situated just across the street from the funeral home.

Memorial Service

A memorial service is a gathering where the casket is not present. The cremated remains (which can be placed in a cremation urn) and/or a photo may be present. A memorial service may be held at a later date following the death.

Memorial services can be held in the funeral home chapel, a place of worship, a community hall or somewhere of importance to the deceased and family. There may be music, religious and/or literary readings, prayers and a eulogy. Memorial services may be preceded by visitation with the urn present or not, and followed by a funeral procession and a committal service held at the graveside or the columbarium.

Graveside Service

A graveside service consists of a gathering at the cemetery, whether it be at the graveside, columbarium (for cremated remains), or mausoleum (for a casket). It may include the reading of literary or religious passages and poems, a eulogy, prayers, and a musical aspect. A graveside service may be held with a casket or with cremated remains and may be held without having a funeral or memorial service and without any visitation prior to the service.

Celebration of Life

A celebration of life can incorporate the unique lifestyle and personality characteristics of the deceased. Following are a few ideas that can shape a representative celebration of life. We are always available to assist your family in planning a meaningful tribute to your loved one.

  • Host a celebration of life in our Reception Centre with food being served, the deceased's favourite music being played, and a slideshow on display. A reception is a great way for family and friends to gather and share memories about their loved one.

  • Host the celebration of life at a venue that is representative of your loved one (golf course, cottage, garden).
